Three simple steps

How Booking Works

From first enquiry to sitting down with Mr Hussain usually takes a few weeks. There is no waiting list and no referral barrier — you can start the process today. If you are still comparing surgeons, our guide to choosing a hip resurfacing surgeon sets out what to look for.

1

Get in touch

Call or email Wendy Richards, Mr Hussain's secretary, or send the enquiry form below. Tell her if you are insured or self-funding, and whether you have any recent X-rays or scans.

2

Your appointment is confirmed

Wendy will offer you the earliest suitable date at the Royal Orthopaedic, Priory or Harborne Hospital, and help with insurer pre-authorisation if you need it.

3

Attend your consultation

Mr Hussain will examine your hip, review your imaging and discuss whether hip resurfacing — or another option — is right for you. There is never any pressure to proceed.

What to expect

What Happens at Your Consultation

Your first appointment usually lasts 30–45 minutes. It is a clinical assessment and an open conversation — not a sales appointment.

1

History & examination

Mr Hussain will take a full history of your hip symptoms, activity level and goals, then examine your hip, range of movement and gait.

2

Imaging review

Your X-rays are reviewed with you on screen. If you do not have recent imaging, X-rays can usually be taken at the hospital on the same day.

3

Discussion of your options

If you are a candidate for hip resurfacing, Mr Hussain will explain the procedure, the implant options — including the ReCerf ceramic-on-ceramic implant — and how resurfacing compares with total hip replacement for your case. If resurfacing is not right for you, he will say so plainly and explain the alternatives.

4

Your plan — in writing

After the appointment, a summary letter goes to you and your GP. If surgery is recommended and you wish to proceed, Wendy will issue a written, itemised quotation within a few working days. The decision and the pace are entirely yours.

Booking questions

Before You Book

Practical questions patients ask when arranging their first appointment.

How long does a hip resurfacing consultation last?

Initial consultations typically last 30 to 45 minutes. This allows time for a full history, a clinical examination of your hip, review of any imaging, and an unhurried discussion of your treatment options.

How much does the initial consultation cost?

The initial consultation fee is £250 for self-pay patients. For insured patients the fee is invoiced directly through your insurer, subject to pre-authorisation. Follow-up consultations are £175. Full details are on the fees & insurance page.

Do I need X-rays before my appointment?

No — if you do not already have imaging, up-to-date X-rays can usually be arranged at the hospital on the day of your consultation. If you have recent X-rays or MRI scans, bring them or ask Wendy how to transfer them in advance.

Can I book a consultation for a second opinion?

Yes. Many patients see Mr Hussain for a second opinion — often after being offered a total hip replacement elsewhere or told they are too young for surgery. Bring any existing imaging and correspondence so it can be reviewed at your appointment.
